Drew's breeder wanted the puppies named for types of wine. Hence the name "Barbera" since Drew had bright red spots. Drew went to his first show for practice as a yearling, and won Winners Dog from the American Bred class, and Best Opposite Sex over 3 male specials for 4 points. Drew was shown at a total of 12 shows, winning 3 majors and all his points, owner handled by Steve. Drew easily earned his ASFA field championship. We then had to decide whether to run Drew for an LCM title, like we had done with his sire Tom. Instead, we decided to show Drew as a special. Shown only a few weekends in 1993, Drew defeated nearly 200 Borzoi with Best of Breed wins in Maryland, Michigan and Ohio. In 1994, Drew was shown 42 times. He was ranked # 4 all-breed with 2032 dogs defeated. Drew was specialed at a few shows after that, winning Breed at supported entries and some more group placements. Drew always went to the shows with either Steve or I. Highlights of Drew's career: 1994 All-breed Best In Show, 1996 Best Opposite Sex MBC Specialty, Award of Merit & Best Veteran 1997 BCOA National Specialty, and Best Opposite Sex Veteran Sweepstakes 1998 BCOA National Specialty.
